One of the news headlines that caught a lot of attention a few years back was this: “10-year-old Emmanuella builds a house for her parents.” This was reported by BBC News Africa and other news outlets. Towards the end of November 2020.
Maybe you are not surprised, maybe you are. But the only reason why this was news is because it is not typical for a 10-year-old to be affording a house. Children working to earn consistent income is so alien to our society. Society has an unwritten rule that says that at Age 10 you do not concern yourself with getting employed; you focus on your schooling and running errands for the elderly, like children do. You study to get good grades so that you can go to the university and again graduate with good grades and an admirable title or credentials. And then you get a well-paying job with a good title and good benefits; that’s when you start earning. But that is dumb! As you will soon see.
That a 10-year-old girl is wealthy enough to afford something like a house or any asset for that matter, should not be the exception, but rather the norm. Because we all have the inbuilt potential to be wealthy enough at a tender age. But because of the turgle mindset, we don’t!
I for one always engaged in enterprises to earn income along my schooling right from age 5, and was still either the best or among the best in every class I have been part of. So, with good time management or proper planning, it is possible to be working to earn income while schooling and still excel in academics! I was involved in making and selling greeting cards, success cards, wall hangings; printing of t-shirts, sewing clothes, selling magazines, etc. At age 5, I was making toy cars and coal pots out of empty milk and milo cans and selling them.
However, even in my case, because I did not have a business mentor or manager at that time I saw those adventures or ventures more as a hobby rather than a serious business, so I didn’t take it that seriously until after university. How sad!
Naturally, you may also be recounting some opportunities you might have missed because of a turgle mindset.
The age at which most people start earning income is too late and unhealthy! It is said that most people have only two problems, money problems, and other problems. Interestingly, most of the other problems could be solved with money. In that sense, almost all problems are money problems.
Since money is so important, why not start making it very early; especially since most adults have money inadequacy issues? See the population-based pyramid of wealth below and compare the proportions…
This will be discussed later in Section 3: Quick Guide to Your Dream Wealth and Financial Freedom.
Emmanuella still has a very long way to go, but what she has achieved is commendable as it is not typical in the environment she finds herself. In any case, what worked for her was that she got good mentors and good business managers early in her life. And that is mainly what we all needed when we were much younger, and you still do need now, to redeem the lost time. Of course, you have many such mentors at your disposal now.
So, it is very true that you could have been far richer than you are now. It does not even matter if you are still in school.
You may take consolation in the fact that a lot of your peers are just like you; not significantly richer, and not significantly poorer. But that is only because you are comparing wrongly. In that sense, you are being like the turgle. It is very normal though; nothing strange about that. It is how society might have socialised you to become. But you do agree that if you had had the benefit of harnessing your true or hidden potential right from an early age, with the right kind of business mentorship and management, you would have been far wealthier than you are now. You have been comfortable being this way only because you accepted to follow society’s mediocre blueprint without knowing. Because you have had a turgle mindset without being conscious of it; you are not to be blamed.
So, you must become the real you. It is not late. But where are you in the pyramid of wealth though? It is said that “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now”. And this will be possible with proper personal development; the kind this course introduces you to.
