It is believed that nine out of ten of the diseases individuals report to the hospitals with are connected to stress, and also, the BBC reports that the incidence of Work-Related Stress Disorders are on the rise. A 2013 study by neuroscientists found that even mild levels of stress can weaken our ability to control our emotions.
In the study, researchers instructed the subjects (participants) in stress management techniques. However, once participants were administered some delicate stress by having their hands wet in icy water, they could not simply calm themselves down once shown photos of snakes.
“Our results suggest that even mild stress, such as that encountered in daily life, may impair the ability to use cognitive techniques known to control fear and anxiety;” lead author Candace Raio, said in a press release.

Stress can damage your heart as a result of stress hormones increasing your pulse rate and may constrict your blood vessels. This forces your heart to go tougher, and will increase your pressure level.
Stress is also associated with an increase in suicidal thinking and actions.
