A registered Architect and a member of the Ghana Institute of Architect since 1999, Foster was admitted into the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) as a Chartered Architect in 2003. A graduate of the Department of Architecture, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana, Foster Osae-Akonnor also holds an Executive MBA (EMBA) from the Drucker School of Management at the Claremont Graduate University, California, USA with speciality in Strategy and minors in Finance and Leadership. As a partial fulfilment of the EMBA, he pursued a summer course in Global Strategy and Trade at the St. Peter’s College, Oxford University, United Kingdom. He is the Principal Architect of Arthro Synergeio (an architectural firm in Ghana). His profound experience span over 20 years from working locally and Internationally with architectural multinational firms over the years in Project Feasibility, Project Management, Architecture, Urban Design, Interior Design, Landscape Design and related discipline in Ghana and the United States of America. Form, Functionality and Detailing are his hallmark. His built and unbuilt projects includes but not limited to Master Plans (Eco-communities), Civic, Cultural, Industrial, Education, Healthcare, Hospitality, Commercial Office, Residential. Foster has in-depth knowledge in green buildings and have been championing sustainability of the built environment in Ghana for the past decade. As the firm’s lead architect, he also contributes to the formulation of its vision, mission, goals, objectives and strategies in addition to playing a key role in the firm’s investment decisions. Again, Foster is the lead founder of Ghana Green Building Council, -a non-governmental and member-based organisation whose mission is “To transform the built environment in Ghana towards sustainability through the way our communities and buildings are planned, designed, constructed, operated and maintained”. Foster has lead Ghana Green Building Council in the preparation of an Eco-Communities National Framework (already incorporated in the National Housing Policy, 2015). As the leader and a member of the team of Ghanaian assessors-in-training and in collaboration with Green Building Council of South Africa, the joint team in 2015 successfully certified the One Airport Square which achieved a 4-Star rating for Commercial Office (Design) using the Green Star Rating tool. He also represented the Council on the Ghana Task Force (GTF) - a task force set up by the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) for the review of the procurement act 2003 (act 663) towards the development of Sustainable Public Procurement (SPP) guidelines for goods, services, and works. In 2015, he served as a virtual Judge for the Climate CoLab of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) which provided a virtual platform on the Negawatt Challenge - a World bank programme involving Brazil, Ghana, Kenya and Tanzania that aimed at empowering tech and IT communities to be creative and innovate around urban resource efficiency issues. In 2016, he represented Ghana Green Building Council and served on the Technical Committee of Ghana Standards Authority that developed the Accessibility Standard in a Built Environment (GS 1119). Again, in 2017 he represented the Council as a member of the Ghana Standards Authority’s Technical Committee to review and develop the Ghana Building Code, 2018. Foster served as a member of the governing board of Architects Registration Council of Ghana (2014-2016). He is currently the Vice President of Ghana Institute of Architects and Board Chair of Ghana Green Building Council.
