Money is important; we all agree on that fact. To illustrate its importance King Solomon said in the Wisdom Literature that, “Money answers everything,” and, “…wisdom is a defence as money is a defence.” It is said, “You are not really free until you are financially free!” That, “Money is the sixth sense without which the other five senses cannot be used effectively.”

It is very sad that financial difficulties in various forms continue to reign as the topmost issues bothering the majority of people; ‘sinners’ and ‘saints’ alike. The wealth profile across society is heartbreaking! Experts estimate that just about 10 percent of the people own 90 percent of all the wealth available. Besides, the Rich is getting richer, and the Poor, poorer! All these happen because there is a general and a gross lack of financial literacy at the basic level. What one likely gets is the classical advice, “Go to school, study hard, pass your exams well and get a good, well-paying job!” Good advice; however, not enough. Indeed that piece of advice is woefully inadequate! The reason is that the subject of making money is not given adequate attention in our schools, if at all; except probably later in business schools. Indeed, inference drawn from a study once carried out by Harvard University implied that school teaches just about 22 percent of what people require to be exceptionally effective and truly successful.

The general neglect of financial literacy makes many people operate from a position of ignorance or a state of unconscious incompetence – not knowing what one does not know – and consequently struggle financially, though each of us has the potential to create abundant wealth for our individual selves, and our dependents.

Since money is that important, why have we not made adequate effort to teach ourselves the effective ways to create abundant wealth? The principal objective of this series of publications on ‘creating significant wealth’ therefore, is to be a good complement to formal education – by stimulating you to awaken the financial genius that lies within you.
