What Captain (Rtd) Prince Kofi Amoabeng says about the financial literacy course, and why that should matter to you

Preamble

Mr. Prince Kofi Amoabeng is an accountant by profession, and a retired captain of the Ghana Armed Forces. He founded UT Financial Services, which later became UT Bank (later acquired and integrated into the Consolidated Bank of Ghana (CBG)). Mr Amoabeng was the first CEO of UT Bank and retired from the position two years before the integration into CBG. He was one time recognised and awarded as the most respected CEO in Ghana, and also the overall Best Entrepreneur of the Year 2010, among others.

Mr Amoabeng was the man of the moment around the time the financial literacy course (now dubbed: Wealthy Habits :: How to create significant wealth, with little or no capital of your own, and without burning yourself out) was being released (initially as a book titled: Why only a few are rich, and how to be rich too) in 2012, so naturally he was the best person to do the foreword to the book (see the foreword below), and I am eternally grateful to him.

Foreword by Mr Amoabeng

“This book (course*) will educate you on wealth creation in a simple and innovative way; the other objective being to help boost the small to medium scale enterprises (SME) sector.”

“I have learnt through my experience in business that to be successful you must love people enough to want to see their lives improve, and then you must fall in love with your product/service, for some reason; know and love how that product / service helps people. With your love for people and your love for the product / service, you have a business that will be unmatched. That’s what it takes, but we are all ‘pre-programmed’ to want to be doctors, engineers, accountants and so on; which is good, but not good enough to become truly rich because really, these are all areas that are in the middle income bracket. Yes, with savings, you can do a few things but it is ‘tough’ in that bracket, and you are not likely to break the barrier and become truly rich, where you will have money in excess of what you can ordinarily spend. This book (course*) provides that insight and guides you to appreciate what it takes to become truly rich and financially free! I think it presents a good challenge to people who have good formal education, and who can and should change things in our country and in Africa as a whole.”

“True wealth creation has for so long been left to the not-very-educated ones. The few very educated people I know who have ventured into basic businesses have made things work. For instance, though I had a degree and was an accountant, I went into money lending; an area that hitherto was not for the very educated. I think that background made a world of a difference because then, I could make something different out of it. People should really move away from their comfort zones, risk and venture into more rewarding areas and become truly rich; the book helps in that light.

“David has done well in coming up with a book (course*) that should help the youth and practitioners in the small to medium scale enterprises (SME) sector, especially. The approach is good; it really sets you prepared so as not to take things for-granted, in the light of the numerous challenges involved in the wealth creation process, especially in Africa where systems are not structured enough. The book (course*) gets you to have the mindset and the resolve to face the challenges.”

I recommended the book (course*) highly; even for students in business, I think it will help prepare them better.”

“Enjoy the experience!”

*NOTE: Where it occurs, course is inserted by me (the author of the book and this article) to reflect the fact that the book is actually a self-development course material, which is currently also available online as a course.

Why it should matter to you

Since you have read through to this point, you obviously have a fair conviction that sound financial literacy that creates significant wealth matters, and does actually matter to you. Mr Prince Amoabeng has in effect summed up the process in a very simple way; the course focuses on the nitty gritties.

When I say that I’m eternally grateful to Mr. Amoabeng, I don’t mean it lightly because he did it willingly and wholeheartedly without receiving any consideration whatsoever in return; be it monitory or otherwise. Indeed prior to requesting for him to do the foreword, we had never ever spoken. And since we had no prior relationship whatsoever, and there was no consideration involved, he was under no obligation to do the foreword, except that he found the material very rich and potent, and my convictions very sound; we had only one physical meeting on the matter so all that was available to him was essentially the material content of the book (course), and no other influences; of course our physical meeting helped him to appreciate the person behind the work.

In the ‘Why only a few are rich‘ presentation, I indicated that the general neglect of financial literacy makes many people operate from a position of ignorance or a state of unconscious incompetence – not knowing what one does not know – and consequently struggle financially, though each of us has the potential to create abundant wealth for our individual selves, and our dependents. And just as I said in the ‘Hard truth every young person needs to hear‘ presentation, the future will surely come, and you will be alive; make sure that 5 years, 10 years, 25 years, 50 years or so from now you can say with confidence that you chose your life, you did not settle for chance; chance is noted for delivering hardships to those who sit aloof. You definitely are ready to hit the very top.
