For the purpose of this presentation, and especially because I may not know who you are, I will simply use ‘children’ to represent both your biological children (if you have) and any other persons under your care and / or mentorship; for instance the students / pupils if you are an educator, the congregation (especially the teens and young adults or the youth) if you are a pastor, and so on.
Now, the first and most amazing seed every great parent sows into the life of his / her child...
In a single word I will call it ‘Zing!‘

So what is this 'Zing' seed I'm talking about?
It is special grit! It is grit that is based on full awareness of one’s true potential or self-worth and adequate practical guidance on how to harness that true / hidden potential for practical living and for awesome positive impact for a truly fulfilling life.
Research shows that, of all the people that go to work every day, only 18 out of 100 (a meagre 18 percent of workers) really feel good about going to work; a whopping 82 percent of people harbour some apprehension when going to work and wish they didn’t have to go to work. This is a major source of stress and ailments; indeed, not too long ago, the BBC announced that work-related stress disorders have been on the increase. And chances are that, you may be affected by it; indeed there is 82 out of 100 chances that you may be affected; likewise your children.
Closely related to these issues of (i) the prevalence of extremely poor affection for occupations, and (ii) stress, is the fact that the subject of Emotional Intelligence is not given much attention; so most people do not know about the need to manage their own emotions, and the emotions of other people, let alone how to go about it.
Let me ask another question…
Do you know your true potential? What about your children?
Chances are that you don’t! And chances are that your children also do not know their true potential.
It may surprise you to note that, every person born into this world is a genius within; indeed, every person born into this world has the inborn potential ability to at least start / develop a theory, a company, a product or service that will significantly improve the lives of at least 1 billion people within 10 years, and generate wealth beyond what one could possibly spend in a lifetime. Please note that it is not a potential within some few people; it is a potential within everyone! That means, you have that potential within you, and your children also have that potential within them.
Interestingly, what you attempt or do in life depends on what you convincingly know as your capabilities. And though you were created as an amazing being with such extreme power / abilities as earlier cited, chances are that you have gone through life without being made fully aware of this innate power, let alone how to harness it. But is that not what education is supposed to do? You may ask! Unfortunately our formal education system essentially and inadvertently does the opposite; because of the way it is set up (especially the curriculum) and the mode of instruction. Indeed, inference drawn from a research done sometime ago by Harvard points to the sad fact that Formal Education is able to harness up to only 22 percent of people’s true effectiveness and greatness in life. This has been corroborated by other researches done under the auspices of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. In essence, education and schooling are not the same thing! So one renowned Nobel laureate by name Prof. Sir William Arthur Lewis has rightly said that… “Education and schooling are not the same thing. What goes on inside the schools is often not education. And the results may well be that it reduces productive capacity rather than to increase it.” This is further compounded by the predominant culture, interest and focus of society (especially the media, and religious organisations).
Some role models (especially religious leaders) might have encouraged you to dream big dreams and to do big things, because you are the head and not the tail, above and not beneath, and so on! But chances are that they have not helped you to identify the details of the potential within you, let alone guide you as to how to harness it, guide you practically as to how to go about accomplishing your big dreams, and to support you alongside. Chances are either that you have gone through very bitter and regrettable experiences while trying to accomplish big dreams, or that the fear of the unknown has created some inertia in you, and so in either way you have resolved to play it safe; since you may not be deeply convinced about your ability to accomplish very big dreams like starting / developing a theory, a company, a product or service that will significantly improve the lives of at least 1 billion people within 10 years. Indeed, “It’s not who you are that holds you back, it’s who you think you are not!” in the words of Denis Waitley.
It is the Norm!
The above has been the experiences of many people, and as a result, majority of people underestimate their capabilities and thus use very little of their true potential, especially their brain power. Indeed, if you take every 100 individuals, chances are that 97 of them will be using very little (just about 3 percent) of their true / hidden potential, especially their brain power. Scientists estimate that most persons, during their lifetime, use their brains to achieve just about one-hundredth of 1 percent of what the brain is capable of achieving. In other words, if the brain is capable of achieving 10,000 marks what most people achieve with it is just 1 out of 10,000. It’s like having one of the most powerful supercomputers in the world (like the Jaguar, or even the Sunway TaihuLight, or the new kid on the block: IBM’s Summit) and only using it as a clock to display the time! How does that feel?
To illustrate further, assuming that the white cylinder shown is what the brain is capable of achieving throughout your lifetime on earth, then ordinarily, what you are likely to achieve with it is the green speck shown against the yellow cylinder; the yellow cylinder represents the comparative proportion of what you are likely to refuse to use your brain for: the books that will not be written, the businesses that will never be created, the theories that will remain unknown, the happiness, health and wealth that you may refuse to create, and so on! And thus the prevalence of (i) extremely poor affection for occupations, and (ii) stress.
So indeed, most people are not truly fulfilled in life, because they do not harness and use their true potential; they waste it! But there is a way out of this, especially for your children, and I will talk about that soon.
Note that this extremely low use of one’s true potential is mainly about what one ordinarily ends up using the brain to achieve, and the resulting consequences, as against what the brain was created to be capable of achieving. For example, a lot of people perform poorly in their academics just because they do not know / apply the right studying techniques. For instance, Reading is a popular learning method, but it is a lower method; so ordinarily, if you read something, you are likely to remember only 10 percent of it after 2 weeks. There are 12 methods in the series, and the higher methods of learning will allow you to understand so well, and to remember over 90 percent; even after 2 weeks; so much more effective!
Also, there has been adequate research to understand the various human personality traits found on earth, and the corresponding professions most suited for the respective personality types; for maximum satisfaction and productivity. And there are mainly 6 of such personality types, and a whole lot / range of jobs / professions most suited for each of them.
Then also, life in this world is a tough one – ordinarily; it means there will be many situations that will arouse various forms of emotions, which if not well managed can affect you negatively; your health and your wealth. The consequences of stress are so serious; to the extent that, most of the ailments people report to the hospitals with, are not pathogenic (they are not the effects of disease causing organisms) but rather, they are the consequences of stress. It’s that serious! Fortunately, there are simple and effective ways of dealing with emotions, and preventing undue stress. For instance, all negative emotions can be classified under 10 core emotions, and there are specific messages they provide, and specific ways of responding and so on.
You may want to particularly note that this extremely low use of one's true / hidden potential and the resulting dire consequences, apply to even religious persons and also even persons with high academic exposure; as a result of the reasons earlier stated.
Now, what I need to emphasise is that, your children have the inborn potential ability to at least start / develop a theory, a company, a product or service that will significantly improve the lives of at least 1 billion people within 10 years, and thus generate so much income for themselves than they can possibly spend in their lifetime. This ability is already present in them; though you may not be seeing that, and they themselves may be ignorant about that. And though the formal education system promises so much, and takes so much of your resources, ordinarily the formal education they go through can only harness up to just 22 percent of their true / hidden potential. And though you may be religious, and your children may also be religious (and that may have some benefits) being religious alone may not necessarily add much as far as harnessing their true / hidden potential is concerned. Sowing the ‘zing’ seed makes the difference! And the first major step in sowing that ‘zing’ seed into the lives of your children is to make them aware of the facts I have just recounted, and a bit more.
I suggest that you should call your children, and let them know this at your earliest convenience; you can go like… “Hello Clara, Kofi and Mansa (substitute their names) I have good news for you! You are such amazing beings; you have the inborn potential ability to at least start / develop a theory, a company, a product or service that will significantly improve the lives of at least 1 billion people within 10 years, and thus generate so much income for yourselves than you can possibly spend in your lifetime. It does not matter what you see in yourselves at the moment, and it does not matter what you see around you now. And I’m going to help you to unearth that true / hidden potential!“
Indeed, sowing the ‘zing’ seed makes the difference! And again, the first major step in sowing that ‘zing’ seed into the lives of your children is to make them aware of the facts I have recounted, and a bit more. I wrote my pet book: The Purpose Compass for that purpose, and I will recommend that you should get copies for them.
The Purspose Compass comes in various options… Book Print, eBook / PDF, Direct Coaching, Etc. My favourite option is the Direct Coaching; it affords me to present the amazing principles live in person, take immediate feedback (including questions) and address them to be responsive to the individual’s peculiar situation. This can be done online, so it does not matter which part of the planet you are; as long as there is internet connection, we are good to go.
Go ahead and share with your children the issues I have talked about, and then get them The Purpose Compass; get one for yourself too; remember that The Purpose Compass was written to create that firm awareness and preliminary guidance. In so doing you will be helping your children to begin to overcome the number one problem with most intellectuals: Unconscious Incompetence!
In Chapter 1 of The Purpose Compass, I ask a very critical question… “Why Are You Here on Earth?” and deliberate on it incisively; amazing from the very beginning! Chapter 2 reveals some 4 Very Surprising Habits that Make Life Difficult; especially how they make life difficult, and inches up some notches higher in Chapter 3 where some of the combined effects of the four habits, especially some nine key problems their combined effects are likely to be causing in your lives, and thus denying you of a truly fulfilling life, are discussed; very deep! I hinted on 3 of them at the beginning of this presentation; in chapter 3 I elaborate on them along with 6 other very critical ones. In Chapter 4, I first explain what a truly fulfilling life is, and subsequently elaborate on the seven amazing steps you can use to achieve a truly fulfilling life. In the last chapter (Chapter 5) which I consider as a bonus, I begin to reveal some really amazing principles for harnessing the power of the brain.
So that is the first step, and they will love you for creating that awareness in them. And then go ahead and blow their minds with the second step…
The second step involves taking them through the amazing Zing4Life! Training
“When you know the right things, the boundaries around your life suddenly disappear;” in the words of Brian Sher. I discuss step two into details in part two of this presentation. Stay tuned! Scroll further down and subscribe for updates. For more about Zing4Life! you may click here.
